Space Man WIP

Ahoy there, 

Here's an update from last week! 

Ended up choosing this guy to develop into a full character. 

For his suit I took the same approach that I used on the head, laid down a rough base mesh on Zbrush and quickly started adding some layers with features that I wanted to have on it.

With some optimization I believe this technique can be almost as fast as thumbnailing with the advantage that you already have a 3D mass in place and not only can concept it 360 but when you're finished with it you already have a very good base for the 3D Artist to start from.
Annnd since the volumes are all in place, there's no need for much back and forward between concept and production.

Still need a bit to do on the Cap, want to add some mechanical elements on his back and joints (like a mild exo suit to help him with the G's), maybe some small thrusters, so he can maneuver on his own in space and mayyybe some lasers :P piu piuu . That would be cool.
After that, it's detail time.

Alien faces concept pipeline

So I've started digging out ways to improve my concept design pipeline on Zbrush regarding iteration and tried it out on some alien faces. 

Started with a base mesh and sculpted two different heads(in 2 different layers) and a couple of adjustment layers.

With this I've produced a number of variations. This are some examples with only two layers(+ 2 more adjustment layers). 

Imagine with five or so! 

Obviously this are very low and rough, some need serious proportion tweaks and some are just unusable, but it's a pretty cool idea (not originally mine :P)  to generate ideas about possible facial features and general forms.

After a bunch of tries I ended up choosing 3 and developed them a bit further. One is completely different from the bases, and two pretty similar to their bases with a bit of mix.  

I feel that the source material on this case was scarce, and poorly structured.
Maybe if I had those 5 heads and some general adjustment layers I could  juice it out a bit more and have even more interesting results.

Oh and this is also sweet if you want to create creatures. I know this isn't new, but surely cool.  

Concluding,I believe this pipeline is just awesome, not only fills your mind with ideas but it's great for concept production because you can separate features ( briefing stuff ) and mix them at your will ( or client/director). This saves a lot of time and headache.

Long time no posty.
This have been hectic times, got out of studio I was working on and now it's freelance time. Moving and getting my sh*t back together was hard but necessary. 

Now it's time to dive into my folio, that's just a disgrace. I feel it barely represents my skills, so this is why I've started the blog here, to share a bit more of what I do beside art production and all.

On the other side, I've wanted to develop a game for ages and now I feel I really can, so I've been trying to come um with ideas for a games that had to be simple to execute but with great player agency. But that is for another blog post.

Meanwhile I'm cooking some characters for my folio, that will probably serve on my game.
